THE GREAT WILD WEST GOLD RUSH
In 1848 Gold was found in California, bringing some 300,000 people to mine for their riches.
Depicted here is the famous ‘Panning’ method which is iconic of the time.
People would take a steel pan down to the river and try to separate gold from the mud by swirling it in water.
The mud would flow out and the gold would sink to the bottom of the pan.
